MEXE Board Game
The MEXE Board Game puts you right in the middle of a warm, raucous bar somewhere within Abbisan. You sit at a wooden table. The dice clattered on the surface. Opposite you sits a character from Dani Sierra’s fantasy novels, a person with a name, a temper, and a story to tell.
It’s not a sophisticated strategic game. This is a dice game you can learn in 2 minutes. But the depth is in the individuals you face.
MEXE was released as a free mobile board game, closely related to Sierra’s Legends of Abbisan trilogy. The volumes — Erdevaile, Children of the Griffin and Fate and Dawn — track four brothers as they escape a terrible attack on their town. The game takes those characters, and others from the epic, out of the pages and into a bar atmosphere where you challenge them to dice.
You don’t need to have read the novels to enjoy MEXE. It is a standalone game. But if you know the narrative, every match is like seeing old friends – or old foes – in a new light.
How to Play MEXE: Five Rounds, One Winner
The Core Loop
Here’s what a match in MEXE looks like:
- You encounter one enemy. You get to play dice up to five rounds. The match is won by the first to get the majority. Just like that.
- The rounds pass quickly. You twirl. You choose. Your rival replies. And you don’t need a rulebook to keep you hooked, just the beat.
Why Best-of-Five Counts?
The five rounds generate a natural tension. A fortuitous roll doesn’t win a match. You need consistency and a little nerve and you need to learn how your opponent plays.
It also makes the sessions short. You may conclude a match in minutes. That makes MEXE easy to use on your commute or coffee break.
The personalities you will meet
Each opponent has his own discourse and responses. They are not dumb AI silencers. They speal, they laugh. And they are having a party. Some are welcoming and friendly. Others are chilly or calculating.
This personality work is important. It turns a simple game of dice into something more like a conversation. You start to detect patterns—not just in their dice, but in their tone.
Legends Behind the Dice
Dani Sierra’s Abbisan Saga
Dani Sierra is the author of the Legends of Abbisan series. Erdevaile, the first volume, was published by Orpheus Ediciones Clandestinas in 2021. The narrative follows the blacksmith Berhar and his four children, Delenhar, Rigo, Biren and Cerule.
The siblings run away as their town is attacked. They meet allies, adversaries and mysteries, notably about young Cerule who bears something weird and old within her.
The books merge adventure, betrayal and fantasy into a fast-paced story. Reviewers have applauded the character work, even if some of the lesser characters appear undeveloped.
Why a Tavern Game?
Taverns are everyplace in imagination. They are neutral territory. You meet strangers, hear tales and occasionally bet.
Sierra places MEXE in a pub, providing an environment for characters from across his narrative to meet outside the main action. You are not doing combat reenactments from the books. You’re sitting opposite these folks in a friendly competition.
This option gives the MEXE Board Game a warm, inviting atmosphere. You don’t need to know the lore. It beckons you to discover it via play.
What You Truly Unlock?
Chronicles of the Canonical
This is the core of the MEXE rewards system. beat a competitor 5 times and you get their canonical chronicle.
This isn’t simply flavor text. These are official stories from the Abbisan Archives – lore that fits into the bigger story. They tell you more about a character than do the literature.
For us book aficionados this makes MEXE more than just a side game. It is a source of new tale material. The chronicles are a great way for a beginner to get into the universe without having to read three novels first.
Sustained Progress
Your rankings and progress are saved locally on your device. No registration needed. You don’t need to sync anything. Your time and privacy are respected in the game.
A Full Package Without Any Strings
MEXE features no inapp purchases. No advertising. No internet connection necessary. That combo feels almost quaint in today’s mobile landscape. You download this. You play it, you like it. Nothing pulls you out of the experience.
Why MEXE Board Game feels different?
Mechanics Before Personality
Many mobile board games rely on eye-catching features or addicting advancement methods. MEXE does not. Its appeal is more simple: intriguing characters in an interesting environment.
The discourse reveals each competing presence. You remember who you fought. You get favorites, you feel satisfaction when you finally beat that one opponent who kept beating you.
High reward, little pressure
There is no energy meter. No watches. No pressure to play every day. Play the game when you want to. When you’re done, you close it. The only draw to come back for is to unlock the next chronicle or meet the next rival.
That design is player respectful. And that fits with the ethos of the bar — a place you go when you want to, not when the system tells you to.
Music & Atmosphere
The traditional tavern music provides the tone. It’s a tiny touch, but it means something. Sound design is the way a game feels. The cheerful folksy song makes the dice rolls seem friendlier. It re-asserts the feeling that you’re in a certain place, seated at a table with a certain person.
Who Should Play MEXE?
Readers of the Legends of Abbisan Books
If you’ve read Sierra’s trilogy, MEXE gives you a new way to hang out with people you know. The chronicles add to the legend. The tavern environment provides a casual setting for familiar people. You’ll see allusions that newbies don’t.
Fantasy readers looking for a light break
You don’t have to be a subscriber to a novel to enjoy MEXE. The game provides a little hit of fantasy mood in brief bursts. If you prefer a fantasy tavern, the warmth, the dice, the strangers with stories, MEXE satisfies that itch.
Tired of Ads, Purchases, Mobile Gamers
Not having monetization at all is a statement it seems. MEXE is here because someone wanted to build it, not because someone wanted to suck money out of gamers. And that alone is worth attempting.
Easy Dice Game Play for Anyone Who Likes?
Strip away the fantasy overlay and MEXE is a pure dice game. The rules don’t drown. The rounds are rapid. If you appreciate games that blend luck with mild decision-making, you’ll be right at home here.
